Adirondack Brand Now Leads Yellowstone and Vermont

A study of global brands related to rural/parkland tourism shows that Adirondack now leads Vermont in recognition in North America, Europe and Japan/China. Serious work on developing the Adirondack brand did not begin until 2014 when the project was funded under State-wide program to follow up on the I Love New York campaign.

Bed Tax Funds Local Enhancement Projects

The bed tax was raised from 3% to 5% and this spring towns get the first round of funding from it.  North Elba received $560,000 and spread it across 16 projects.

Essex Cty Raises Occupany Tax from 3 to 5%

Essex Cty Bed Tax Income Jumps

The first 6 months of 2019 showed a 23% increase in bed tax income in Essex County.  Some of that is growth in tourist numbers.  Also, some portion is due to the newly taxed vacation rental income.

Conde Nast Traveler recently released a list of the most beautiful lakes in the United States and Lake George was one of them. The magazine called it "the epitome of a jet-set summer escape" for its beauty and the variety of activities available.

Adirondack Scenic Railroad Named #6 Best US Train Trip by Fodor's Travel

Fodor's Travel just released its list of "12 Best US Train Trips to Take This Fall" for the September issue of the AARP Magazine with the Adirondack Scenic Railroad named #6. The Adirondack Scenic Railroad offers Fall Foliage trains in the fall months on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

350 New Banners Promoting Adirondack Coast Brand Unveiled

The Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau as part of the North Country Chamber of Commerce created and will be distributing over 350 new banners to Plattsburgh, Rouses Point, Champlain and others that promote the Adirondack Coast Brand. The banners are both in French and English and showcase the Adirondack Coast's unique characteristics like the wine trail, maple production, and recreational activities.

Cheapism.com recently ranked Lake George "Best Lake for Tourists" in New York State after being evaluated on quality and cost-efficiency. The website mentioned the location at the foothills of the Adirondacks and the variety of activities available and eateries.

ROOST Takes on Marketing Work for Essex and Hamilton

ROOST is the "Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism".   It runs tourism marketing for much of Essex County.  Now it is expanding and will handle tourism marketing for Saranac Lake.  The article below reports ROOST will run tourism marketing for Hamilton County as well. ADK Economic Dev Council wins $2.3 million for tourism promotion

This will be for marketing and for low interest loans for facilities projects like renovations of older motels.  It will be administered by the Development Authority of the North Country.
