137 Acres Near Lake George are Protected

The land, at Huletts Landing, though only 137 acres in two parcels, protects a watershed area.  It was purchased by the Lake George Land conservancy.

Elizabethtown Wins $250k Grant for Recreation Assets

The project will add bike trails and link them to the school so they can easily be used for recreation.   It's building on success of other towns like Wilmington that have done a lot of bicycle recreation.

Boquet River Attracting Salmon Runs Again

Removal of the old dam in Willsboro has begun to attract salmon runs again for the first time since the mill dam was built in the 1800s.

3 Large Scale Composting Machines Operating

North Country School, The Wild Center, and LP Central are all now operating large scale composting machines to convert bio-waste to usable soil material and keep it out of landfills.

Essex Cty Bed Tax Income Jumps

The first 6 months of 2019 showed a 23% increase in bed tax income in Essex County.  Some of that is growth in tourist numbers.  Also, some portion is due to the newly taxed vacation rental income.
