Land Trusts Start Young Farmer Programs in Region

The Land Trusts in region (ALT, OSI, etc.) start programs to support young farmers and to preserve farmlands. There are large number of young people who want to do farming but they can't afford to buy land within the Park.

OSI Ramps up Farm Buying

The Open Space Institute is helping young farmers buy their land.  The most recent acquisitions have been in  Keeseville, on Mace Chasm Road where a number of new farmers are becoming established.

ALT Awarded $40k from NYS and $500k from TNC

The Adirondack Land Trust works to preserve working landscapes and vistas.  Mike Carr, former ED of the ADK TNC Chapter, now runs ALT.  Funds from the State ($40k) and from TNC ($498k) will boost ALT operations.   It appears ALT is gearing up to be a larger player in the Park.

ALT Buys Glenview Farm to Preserve the View

The Adirondack Land Trust purchased the farm near Donnelly's on rt 86 to preserve it's famous view.

Open Space Institute purchases farm easement on farm

The re-start of Mace Chasm Farm in Keeseville has been supported by sale of conservation easement to the Open Space Institute.  The OSI program started with a $1.2m gift from the Klipper Fund and a $500k matching gift from OSI's own resources.  OSI is also developing a lease-to-own program.

Agrarian Trust Program for Land Access for Next Gen Farmers

Agrarian Trust is a new land trust operating in the region to allow transfer of land from retiring farmers to new generation farmers.
