Services to aging boomers, including health care, home maintenance, and the like are growing fast as aging baby boomers increase spending in the Park. These jobs have always had appeal but now they are real growth sectors as the resident population ages and boomers spend more time here and pay for year-round services. New facilities like Assisted Living and Continuing Care are opening in the region.

Cooking and eating good meals is a problem for some elderly.  Minerva won a $300k NC REDC to build a senior meals facility.

Lack of Home-Health Aides Causing Major Problems

Although there is a dire need for home-health aides that help the elderly with daily tasks at home, and it continues to increase, there is a significant lack of aides due to poor wages, inconsistent hours and lack of transportation among other factors. The Franklin County Office for the Aging, Mercy Care for the Adirondacks, and the New York Statewide Senior Action Council have joined forces to raise wages, improve policies, and increase funding to address the lack of workers in the field.
