NYS Funds Titanium 3D Printing Effort in Plattsburgh

NYS and Norsk Titanium will be a production scale facility for 3D printing of titanium parts for aircraft.  It will employ 400 people.  Norsk brings the production technique to the project.  It will be at the old air force base.

SterRX, a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Plattsburgh expects to add 120 to 170 more jobs over the next few years and to produce up to $400 million of product per year with new business provided by the new distribution contract.

Plattsburgh and Longueuil, Quebec Agree to Cooperate

A declaration of cooperation was signed November 23rd between the city of Plattsburgh, NY and the city of Longueuil, Quebec to work towards creating a bi-national transportation manufacturing cluster in the region. The partnership will build on the capacities of the manufacturing in each region.

Irving Consumer Products awarded SUNY Adirondack with $50,000 towards their Advanced Manufacturing Initiative. Curriculum and programs will be created to train and educate a strong workforce for the manufacturing and hi-tech industries in the region.

Nova Bus to Add Showroom to Plattsburgh Facility

Nova Bus was just approved to build a 14,000 square foot showroom for their buses at the Plattsburgh manufacturing facility as well as a 22,400 square foot parking lot. In the midst of an increase in production and bus orders the showroom will allow clients to view products in a better environment.

GE Schenectady Factory Building 2 Turbines for Vietnam

As part of a new $1B deal with Asian customers, GE has announced recently that their Schenectady factory will be building two steam turbines for Vietnam to be delivered in spring of 2016.

Chicago Transit Authority Expands Order with Nova Bus

The Chicago Transit Authority announced that they will be expanding their order through Nova Bus to build 125 more transit buses, which is valued at $68.4 million. Nova Bus is a manufacturing facility in Plattsburgh.

CCC Wins Grant for Area's First Advanced Manufacturing Institute

Last fall Clinton Community College won a $12.7 million grant from the SUNY 2020 Challenge Grant Program for the institute that will provide education and training in aerospace, transportation and manufacturing. The three areas focused on were identified by the North Country Regional Economic Development Council as necessary for economic growth.

FAA Approves Rome NY Drone Testing Site

The site, at the former Griffiss AF Base, is one of 6 sites in the US.  A consortium of 40 institutions is involved.  Operations may begin in the summer of 2014.  500 manufacturing and research jobs are expected to follow.  This could boost the Southwestern Adk Park.

Global Foundries Adding 1000 Jobs in Spring 2014

The giant chip fab in Malta, near Saratoga, recently opened with 2000 jobs.  An new additional operation will add 1000 jobs in spring 2014
