North Elba OKs Short Term Rental Moratorium
North Elba adopted a 6 month moratorium on new short term rentals. This is the first in the region. Nationwide housing prices have soared during the pandemic. Short term rentals have hurt housing as well.

The Adirondack Mountain Club will buy the cross country ski center on Rt 73. It will still run the ski center, but the facility will see year-round use as a visitor center. Most exciting is that it will be a staffed visitor center for people to stop and get questions answered.

An old lodge with 160 rooms is being purchased from Word of Life to be reopened as a resort. This will put the resort back on the tax rolls and provide a large public hotel again in Schroon Lake

The 20,000 sq ft building had been abandon and deteriorating for decades. It will reopen as a hiker center this summer of 2021, hopefully by July 4th.

Jellystone Campground in Noth Hudson Sold for $1.3m
Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Campground in North Hudson has been sold for $1.3 million to a Texas investor. The 20 acre operation has 180 camp sites, 24 cabins and yurts, 2 heated pools, mini-golf, a tiki bar and a playground.

Lake Placid Dual Hotel Wins $3m REDC Grant
The hotel will replace an existing hotel in the same footprint. It will operate under 2 brands. It won $3m in support from the NCREDC.

LP Adopts Stringent Vacation Rental Regulations
Owners of rentals must get permits. Restricted to 90 rental unless the property is occupied by the owner while renting. # of guests allowed, parking and septic capacity are also detailed in the new law.

Online Vacation Rental Revenue Grows 44% in 2019
2018 - 2019 saw vacation rental bookings and income grew more than 40%. There are 2400 registered rentals in the region.

LP Hotel Replacement Wins $3m Grant
The project will replace an existing hotel of similar size and footprint. It will consist of 2 hotel chains sharing common areas.

20 Guest Suites to Open in Saranac Lake
the 20 suites will be operated by the Hotel Saranac, next door. They are in a building that Paul Smiths College built years ago then left unoccupied since 2012.

Surfside on the Lake in Lake George Renovating, Upgrading
Surfside on the Lake resort in Lake George Village will be demolished and rebuilt with a design inspired by the historic, original structure. The new building will have an underground parking garage, and will replace 50 of the 154 rooms with 50 larger, more luxury rooms and suites with balconies, conference rooms, and granite fixtures.

Lake George Zip Line To Open Spring 2016
Ralph Macchio Sr. is constructing the Eagle Flyer atop French Mountain along with reopening the Wild West Ranch & Western Town. The Zip Line will be open year round and will carry riders over tree tops as high as 125 feet.
