Craft Beers and Microbrewers Popping Up

Small micro brewers are introducing craft beers in a couple of towns. The one in Lake Placid has been around for a while. It appears that this could be a nice sized new business in quite a few places. Craft brew pubs can be good draws for tourists.

Racquette River Brewing Wins $572k Grant to Expand

The brewery will expand into the commercial portion of the Oval Wood Dish project where it will be an anchor tenant.  It will keep, and improve, its current location as well.

Adirondack Pub and Brewery will establish the Craft Beverage Campus, a winery and a beverage incubator that will serve as a regional food and beverage education center through partnerships with SUNY Adirondack, Schenectady County Community College and Paul Smiths College.  this is part of a bigger plan for making Lake George a year-round destination.

Farm-to-Bottle Distillery Opens in Keene

Gristmill Distillers, a distiller that recently opened in Keene, prides itself on being a local, farm-to-bottle operation. Spring water from the property, Adirondack Grains form Essex, apples from Rulf's Orchard and barrels from US Barrel in Wilmington all provide local materials and for them to distill their spirits.

Ban on Brewery and Distillery Activities Eased in New York State

The New York State Liquor Authority eased certain bans that will allow better business operations for micro-breweries and distilleries. Among other laws, a ban was lifted that prohibited joint tasting rooms for distillers or brewers.

Oval Brewery to Become Second Brewery on Former Plattsburgh Air Force Base

Oval Brewery just received approval to begin construction to turn the former Rescue Hose 5 fire station located on the U.S. Oval in Plattsburgh into a brewery. The style of the building as well as many historic fire station relics will be preserved during the construction to maintain the rich history of the building.

Valcour Brewing Company Opening in Old Stone Barracks

Valcour Brewing Company is set to open in September 2015 after restoring the historic Old Stone Barracks on the old Air Force Base in Plattsburgh to have a tasting room serving light fare, craft brewery, events space and inn. The history of the location will show through in the restorations as well as in showcases and information displays throughout the brewery.
