Gov't Energy Programs Support More Local Renewables

Federal and State subsidies, as well as reimbursement rates for power, now support a greater number of renewable sources (microhydro, geothermal, biomass, etc.) as well as community-based power generation and net metering schemes (e.g., solar panel farms). Efforts to generate and use power locally have become popular.

The APA has concluded it has no authority over the location of community solar projects.  Apparently because the projects are not defined as buildings, and they are not over 40 feet high.

ADK Region Power Transmission Lines to be Upgraded

Benson Mines Solar Project Begun

The old Benson Iron mine site will see a 20MW solar farm built on 130 acres.  NYSERDA will lease the land from Benson Mines.  This is a small portion of the whole site.  It is one of 20 such projects in NYS.

NYPS to Build Power Storage Facility

It will use batteries and stores 20 megawatts/hour.  It will be in Chateaugayand cost $30 million.

NYPA to Invest $441m to Upgrade Transmission Line

Most of the green power in NYS in from the far north of the state from dams and wind farms.  the New York Power Authority will spend $441 million to replace and upgrade one of it major transmission lines to the south.  It will remain in the same ROW as it is now.
